that make a long time that i didn't pratice my english, so it is not easy, but a kind of funny, to speak english on a french forum.
to answer the question, for the moment, except now and here, i don't speak or write english in my day to day life. and that a kind of problem, cause i spend 4 month in england 3 years ago to improve my english and i'm actually loosing all my learning... :(
You're English is still pretty good Louisa, the odd bit here and there, but it's very clear and understandable. Good effort!

PS on irc and often in life, people use 'mmmh' for 'heu' :D

thanks Joebar, i do my best ! but if you want real discussion, we may moove on the french part, because here i am so concentrated on how saying something that i can't really think on what i'm saying. So it's not really telling ! :icon_winks:

here it's quite plaisant to eschange tree of for words. but i remenber how hard it was for me to write a whole essay in english on the nature of community or on the differences between structural and cultural explanation of poverty. and how disappointed it was to have a bare pass after 50 or 60 hours spend just on one esssay.

but the harder it is the better you learn !

.... and that why i am quite sad of loosing what i learned.

ps : i'll be pleased if you correct my mistake..

I've done a few corrections, it's really just spelling (or typing) mistake and here and there, a better choice of word so it flows better in an English sort of way. It was very good anyway. I know what you mean about long essays. I remember when I came over to Britain, my English was rather poor, and within 9 months I had to sit the end of year exams for the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Engineering Degree, and the following year, the actual degree itself, including a 6,000 words essay! By then, I didn't struggle as much, but I was lucky to have good English friends who read proof the essay for me. At the exams temselves, I don't think my English was the main culprit for my bare pass at 55%, but more the hard drinking and going out 3 or 4 nights a week of the student lifestyle!
I've also done a Masters and a PhD, so I've had the opportunity to write much bigger essays in English, and it's often hard nowadays to write in French properly, as several have already noted my spelling and grammar in the forum (thank you Cormoran!)
Anyway, I'm here if you want to chat from time to time, and there are others, like Stévenot, who speak English as well as I do, even if he's mad at me :) So it's nice to keep the thread going for a while longer

Hello Louisa,
Thanks a lot for your reply of this morning 2:31 am . Are'nt you to bed at that time ? or are you working during night ?

Yes i used a lot the english writing in my former job which was shipping busines and all contracts were in english even when dealing with french companies.

As a matter of fact the english is and will, in the next coming years be the only international language which you can talk any where you travel.

I hope my son and my daughter will also speak fluent english and spanish as I - it's very helpfull when traveling but i am quite disapointed when i see that they are learning more american than english and i am quite fighting with their teachers in this particular point.

Well Louisa if you wish to have talks on special themas let's start and it will be nice for you and me as well as others to improuve.

Have a ice day and hope to read you again on this forum.

SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS ON THE SEA SHORE AND FOR SURE THE SHELLS SHE SELLS ARE SEA SHELLS

well yes sometimes I'm working very late. but yesterday I was just writing with some other of the forum and I didn't the time running.
I'm finishing my semester at the university so I have many work to do at home. more over as I am in a professionnal master, all my course were on the first semester, and the next semester I have a training to do in a firm.

And yes I agree with you, with globalisation we will have to speak in English in many sector of work. But the present way of teaching English in France do not really prepare us to that future.

Since I had no family life I decided to give up and since tehn I care one family firm with my brothers and therfore I am no longer traveling.

hi montibouli !
nice to read you !
i am preparing a master of sociology specialized in work, employment and firm in the university of Nantes. tomorrow I have a presentation, an exposé, on the ethnographic method. Hopefully I have near finished to prepare it.
i went throught the different subject of the forum there are some interesting discussion according to me. we can see on those discussion the gap and seem to be crowing between certain kind of thinking, on some subject really hard. like do we should autorize weapon in France. or to we should make some difference between people accroding to their origine or their skin color.
As a read those sought I always feel a little bit depress. and i'm asking me this question : where our society is going....

Dans votre ascension professionnelle, soyez toujours très gentil pour ceux que vous dépassez en montant. Vous les retrouverez au même endroit en redescendant.
